Re: Hampton Inn & Suites - (19 8th Street North)
I walked by late this afternoon and saw the number on the outside elevator doors said nine. So they now just have to put the rest of the roof and decorative crown on and it is structurally finished. The exterior materials leaves me wanting more. But I know that it could be a lot worse.http://www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/www/gro ... 110193.pdf

Hampton Inn & Suites - (19 8th Street North)
That parking lot seems like such a huge opportunity for a clever open space idea...

As you can partially see through the green screens of annoyance, it looks like the exterior if moving along now. They've also been painting the area where the sign will go.
Re: Hampton Inn & Suites - (19 8th Street North)
The back side of the building is finished almost the exact color as the sides of the Pence Building, You can barely tell the two apart at a glance. It creates an interesting effect.
Re: Hampton Inn & Suites - (19 8th Street North)
Looks like they're making good progress, though hard to tell exactly with that green scaffolding wrap. I think they've topped out, they've had a tar tanker on site for like two weeks. Most windows look to be in, and the exterior finishes are going on. The construction offices are on the other half of the floor that I work on in the Pence building. They have a fully mocked up room built in.. wonder if they'll let me see it.

The green wrap is coming off the top of the building exposing the exterior finish.

I snapped a couple pictures of the backside when I was on the bus this morning but don't have anywhere to host them. Looks pretty cool that the two buildings are so close in color and the windows seem to be about the same size/shape. Gives it the feel of a continuous structure.

That's coming down fast! Here's a picture I took when I was there last week

Interesting! The roof detail seems to have a slope to it! I don't remember seeing that in the original renders.

Couldn't remember that either, but here it is:Interesting! The roof detail seems to have a slope to it! I don't remember seeing that in the original renders.

well they definitely successfully achieved the Hampton inn brand in an urban setting! that's not necessarily good or bad, but I'm happy that we have a more moderately priced hotel option!
Re: Hampton Inn & Suites - (19 8th Street North)
From what I can see from the photos, the architects did a good job of using inexpensive materials on the exterior yet it still looks pretty decent. Agree, it blends into the urban setting nicely and fits the corner site well. Glad they decided to move the restaurant to the angled corner with patio space in the summer so there will be more activity going on at the street level.
Re: Hampton Inn & Suites - (19 8th Street North)
Mortenson dropped off a little information packet to everyone in the Pence building.
Here is their construction milestone schedule:
- Parking Lane Closure on 9th Street North - Beginning Feb. 14th.
- Bike Lane & (1) 1 Northbound Vehicle Traffic Lane Closures - Beginning Feb. 17th.
- Skyway Closure - Beginning Feb. 17th.
- Skyway Demolition - Beginning Feb. 24th.
- Earthwork, Piling, Utilities, Building Foundations - Late February through early April 2014.
- Tower Crane: Erection- April 2014, Dismantle- December 2014.
- Superstructure: April 2014 - November 2014
- Exterior Finishes, Building Enclosure, Perimeter Scaffolding: June 2014 - January 2015.
- Construction complete: April 2015.
Also, it is said that the new skyway connection will not be available for public use until the completion of construction in April 2015.
So the tower crane is already coming down, as well as the scaffolding. It would appear that they are way ahead of the schedule they handed out before the project started.
Re: Hampton Inn & Suites - (19 8th Street North)
One morning earlier this week I talked to a Mortenson guy as I walked by. We were both marveling at the sections of scaffolding coming down. I said it would be great if the skyway opened earlier than expected... He said it won't be open until April. I keep hoping he is wrong. I park in Ramp A and work in LaSalle Plaza.

Last I had heard the skyway connect was to open in December. I happen to work in LaSalle Plaza as well. But, I take transit every day.One morning earlier this week I talked to a Mortenson guy as I walked by. We were both marveling at the sections of scaffolding coming down. December would be great! I thought it seemed like they were ahead of schedule. I guess they might not all be on the same page.Last I had heard the skyway connect was to open in December. I happen to work in LaSalle Plaza as well. But, I take transit every day.
