What bothers me about this plaza more than the bridge and the jumble around the light rail stop is the overwhelming expanse of concrete between the stadium and the Commons. It's brutally hot and oppressive on steamy summer days, and I imagine it being equally miserable during cold, windy, winter days.
It would have helped a lot just to line Chicago Avenue with trees. Simple. I'm wondering if this wasn't done because the powers that be didn't want to interfere with the view of their magnificent structure. I commented at one point that the stadium was something of an exercise in megalomania. Even if, as it turns out, the stadium is fairly well done architecturally, the barren plazas that open a vista of that massive prow are indicative of this attitude.

They have Chicago Ave all dug up right in front of the stadium. Someone screwed something up.

Sorry to add fuel to this fire, but apparently they wont even let you make the transfer at all during special events.

Can confirm, they make you ride to Government Plaza station to transfer. If you happened to be going to a point south of the stadium I don't even know how you'd get there.

I was over there this evening. Looks like they have a good system for people arriving two events. The problem will be when they leave. If I'm still downtown around the time the concert ends, I will go over and get some pictures. It's going to be an absolute cluster.

We could've had a glass bottom bridge for only $3.4 million.

It is AMAZING how many obstacles there are between the front of the stadium and the park. For all intents and purposes, the bridge is the only connector. Sad.
