New SFH proposed at 2744 Taylor St NE, site of a previous 2-story 4+ unit building.

Sad to see a net loss of units on this parcel over a decade.

Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
It sounds like the previous 4-plex that was here was demo'd in 2010, so it's not like this project replaced that building.....at least not directly. I'd also prefer to see slightly higher unit density here but considering that this is on a block dominated by SFH'ing and it's a new investment, I'm happy to see projects like these fill in across the city. I'd like to see more of this kind of thing especially on the northside, where there are so many more vacant lots.

Commenters are very worried this will lead to the Uptownization of Northeast.

The alternative to abandoned buildings, to some, is what they can't afford.
Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
It's pretty unfortunate that rampant income inequality has created that choice.

Kind of a shame they aren't incorporating any retail into the corner there. That lobby will be awfully empty. Obviously, it's only a couple blocks from the retail cluster on 13th Avenue, but you'd think with the number of apartments that have (or are proposed) to pop up on Marshall that even something as small as a coffee shop or something could survive.

It does have live work units along Marshall though which I think is s huge get. It's great for small business's and their owners.
The building itself I think is really nice. Decent design, good material placement, the balconies for the most part fit the design. Looks like quality materials where they prominently face the street. Seems like a really good project.
Why am I not recalling the proposed building on the other corner of this block? Is gonna get dense over here!

NIEBNA/Old St. Anthony/whatever now rebranding as "Old Town": https://www.facebook.com/oldtownmpls/
Not to be confused, of course, with "East Town" (Downtown East).

CenHenn or nothing.
Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
The Star Tribune had a story a couple weeks ago about Marcy-Holmes struggling to stand out as a place. I guess this is part of that? Or is this just St. Anthony Main/Central-Hennepin? I would check the oldtownmpls.com website, but it's not working.
Either way, this could be worse, but I'd have leaned toward incorporating an existing name. Like call the district Old St. Anthony, with St. Anthony Main being part of it.

Update: According to Wikipedia, this Central-Hennepin area is different from Old St. Anthony.

I don't know about you, but I've never once heard someone call Bottineau or Logan Park part of Old St. Anthony.

I haven't, if you're talking to me.

Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
Many of the old structures of 'Old St. Anthony' extend well past 17th st NE, with most west of Washington. There is quite a lot of 1840s/50s history hiding in plain site in lower NE.
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.
Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
Right, but does that mean that any structure that was part of the former St. Anthony is part of "Old St. Anthony"? I've never heard that brand used in conversation except for the NIEBNA area, but I guess that's a reasonably straightforward name for the former city.

Re: Northeast (and Southeast) - General Topics
It's not just "according to Wikipedia", those are the officially defined Minneapolis "Community" boundaries (which encompass several neighborhood orgs). These community boundaries just aren't used very often, or ever. For whatever reason, Nicollet Island-East Bank neighborhood is grouped in the University Community, rather than Northeast. Makes about as much sense as Whittier and Lyndale being included in the Powderhorn community.Update: According to Wikipedia, this Central-Hennepin area is different from Old St. Anthony.
