You're going to make me do another map, aren't you? This neighborhood would be even cooler if 15th Ave was extended southward to meet Hiawatha "Blvd" at grade, then continue across to 15th Ave in Ventura Village. What a great opportunity to reconnect the grid in these areas.

The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.
Re: Currie Park Lofts Phase I
Here's this site. Does anyone else feel like $500,000 to move a building across the street is actually really cheap?

Why not just build around it or integrate it?
Re: Currie Park Lofts Phase I
Building around it would have given the streetscape more diversity in building sizes and ages, which I would prefer to the block-long building they are ready to build. I am glad they were at least forced to save it, and that it will be staying in the neighborhood.

Ah, the 1/2 million dollar question. Why can't developers be slightly more creative in this town? How many units would be lost to wrap it?
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.

You'd have to ask the developer I guess. I imagine it had to come up in meetings with staff or at the Planning Commission. Why not just build around it or integrate it?
My hunch is that if it's "only" $500k to move it, it must be worth it. I'm guessing that the ongoing costs of integrating it into the new building (including plumbing, HVAC, etc) would have exceeded the cost of moving it in the long run.
Re: Currie Park Lofts Phase I
I don't understand why this building is so important. We have dozens of two story buildings identical to this throughout the metro which are all run down and forgotten.

Whether or not you find them historic, this article will explain their history... (it was posted earlier in the thread)I don't understand why this building is so important. We have dozens of two story buildings identical to this throughout the metro which are all run down and forgotten.

Re: Currie Park Lofts Phase I
If I ever become a developer I am going to do something similar with my project names, like:
"St8 on Eighty Ate" (State on 88)
"2win T Sechs & 4k Rd" (26 & Fork Rd)
"Benjamin AveNEW" (100 Avenue)
Etc.....and become more and more vague with each new project!!

Or continue with the Uptown model and name developments after iMac flavors:

This is on the planning commission agenda for the 4th. Looks like it'll be fully approved.

Will this type of building be occupied by Somalis from the area or is it catered more towards students/professors (I'm assuming the latter)?
Re: Five15 On the Park - (1515 5th St S)
From what I can see on the renders it looks like there is a playground included for this project too! I like the idea of these more family oriented projects coming around...

... Apparently the neighborhood has appealed this development because it will remove green space. Sigh. The full city council will now vote on this April 12. It's toward the bottom of this article, which has encouraging news about the surface lot behind Red Sea:

What browser are you using? When I cut-n-paste from Firefox, it properly replaces the Unicode quotes with %-encoded bytes. http://www.mndaily.com/city/business/20 ... a%E2%80%99
