DTE: Wells Fargo, Radisson Red, Edition Apts & Millwright Building
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Latest I heard was 2 26 story buildings and a 10 story parking ramp.
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Sounds like Monday and Tuesday are going to be big days for Downtown East! Can't wait to see some activity in that area! I remember back in 1982 seeing the plans for the new Metrodome and the potential development area...

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I was pretty pumped when I stood across the street from the Norwest Center (Wells Fargo) getting built and taking pics, and now I'm excited for next week, that's for sure. When I moved here the Metrodome was brand new and there was nothing around it, and 30 years later still hardly anything. Quite exciting.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
If they must, can they put the ten story ramp underneath the 26 story building please?
Q. What, what? A. In da butt.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
1.1 million sq ft plus 460 apartments and retail seems like a lot for only 2 26 story buildings. They must be pretty chunky buildings... I'll wait until the design comes out to be critical, but I think I'd be pretty disappointed. A 10 story ramp too, can you imagine working at that "campus" and trying to leave work every day parking in that size ramp? You'd be looking at 30 - 45 minutes just trying to get out of that sucker.Latest I heard was 2 26 story buildings and a 10 story parking ramp.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I can't see putting 460 apts and well over 1 million sq ft office space in 2-26 story buildings either. It sounds more like this should be the 2 26 story towers along with a 500 foot apt. tower. Or am I reading this all wrong. And is not the new stadium rumored to be 300+ feet tall? I hope these towers are a substantial height above the stadium. Guess will find out soon.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I was wondering this, too. If the stadium is between 250-300ft, then these towers won't really be significantly taller. All our questions will be answered in a few days, however. Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Two 26-story office towers would easily contain a million square feet of space. Needless to say, that's the equivalent to one 52-story building. And the article mentions a "separate" residential project of 460 apartments. This could be another tower or a squatter, full-block project. Anyway, like you all, I'm also looking forward to Monday and Tuesday!

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
Kind of tossing this out there but won't these new buildings block the downtown view from inside the new stadium?

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
These blocks are slightly Northwest of where the stadium sits, which straddles 5th and 6th streets (or 5th and 7th streets), so I don't think this project will block too much.
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
what is the "downtown view"? it's just buildings, right? so won't more buildings just add to the view, not take away from it?Kind of tossing this out there but won't these new buildings block the downtown view from inside the new stadium?
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
It's a valid point. I was at the dome last weekend and tried to get a vision of what downtown will look like from the new stadium. Obviously the skyline view isn't all that important compared to other things, but what makes the view great right now is the sight of Wells Fargo and the other signature buildings.

Re: Star Tribune Blocks
If this city keep treating the current "signature buildings" as sacred, we won't get newer, taller, better "signature buildings"
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I'm not suggesting that we leave several blocks of Downtown East vacant for the sake of the skyline view. It's just a fact worth discussing that any new development on the Star Tribune plots will be highly visible from the new stadium. Adding two/three new buildings here will also make the skyline much bigger from the north and east.
Re: Star Tribune Blocks
I prefer new taller and better signature buildings in addition to our gems. I'm excited for wants upcoming, but I'm looking forward to a taller more dense and majestic skyline.
