Downtown Minneapolis General Discussion
Re: Downtown Minneapolis - General Topics
That Hotel Leaminton is a pretty cool looking building! Too bad they had to go and take that down. It seems like such a waste with all the open lots in that area.

It did not go down without a fight and controversy. Lot of critics felt the same way about it.That Hotel Leaminton is a pretty cool looking building! Too bad they had to go and take that down. It seems like such a waste with all the open lots in that area.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis - General Topics
It would have made one hell of an apartment conversion or luxury hotel if it was still here.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis - General Topics
It reminds me of some of the giant old apartment buildings along Lake Shore Drive in Chicago. I love driving through there and you have the wall of buildings on one side of you, and the lake on the other. Absolutely stunning. It is kind of cool to look toward Loring Park and see the high rise residential all coming out of one area. I'm really hoping to see a few more of them pop up over there before too long, hopefully someone else has the same vision as I do thoughIt would have made one hell of an apartment conversion or luxury hotel if it was still here.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis - General Topics
yea so true. and LPM is a very chicago style residential tower. little bit of a wall effect there and it looks good.

Remember this? It's beginning to look pretty legit. http://finance-commerce.com/2014/10/str ... ollet-ave/
South Nicollet I hear... is going to get a lot of development interest by some NYC developers.

I know Texas RE was talking to me a little bit about this site.. I'll ask her later if she knows some more. I don't want to toss any stories or heights around but I can tell you it's not going to be anything like the Thrivent building.. It'll be much taller

What, exactly constitutes South Nicollet? Not trying to push for more information than you're comfortable giving, but just trying to figure out if you mean the south end of the Mall, Nicollet and Franklin, or what. Thanks.Remember this? Nice article in Citylab talking about the teaching Rybak is doing at the U of M, devoting equal time to the finances and politics of being mayor as well as the urban planning aspects.

I graduated a few years early, apparently. I would've really enjoyed being in a class of his.

Ha, I thought I saw him yesterday at the U. Wanted to say hello, but wasn't sure it was him.

Re: Current & Proposed Downtown Minneapolis Projects
The vacancy rate (with some caveats) is 3.1 percent in downtown Minneapolis. Overall vacancy is 2.1 percent.
Looks like there's no immediate need to worry about the market hitting a glut.

Re: Downtown Minneapolis - General Topics
Interesting to see them championing downtown (including specifically calling out a need for more transit) while endorsing some GOP members. At least it looks like they went mostly DFL for the state house, but ran straight to the right for the US house.
Re: Downtown Minneapolis - General Topics
I think that the Strib endorsed a straight DFL ticket for the state constitutional offices, and endorsed all of the incumbents for the House races with the sole exception of Stuart Mills over Nolan. While I think that's a bit of a head scratcher, Nolan is kind of a wild card himself, and I don't think that single endorsement is enough to declare that the Strib is marching to the right. At least it looks like they went mostly DFL for the state house, but ran straight to the right for the US house.
