I took these photos at 18th St and 10th Ave S. At least 8 major new buildings are seen in this skyline angle.

I like that there's a truck in both pictures. Perhaps the empty trailer is an analogy for... something.
Any idea which building is under construction in the 1987 picture?

I was happy to catch a VW bug in the '87 picture too.

I took this photo of the Foshay tower in spring of 1988. This view is a lot busier now. The Ameriprise building now blocks this view, and today the AT&T and Target Plaza South towers would be behind the Foshay.

You are correct. So they must have redone the façade of the building several years ago? I hadn't realized that the view went that far in years past, but there is the Basilica sitting back there too.

Which building is yours?
Here I stood near the corner of Grant St and 2nd Ave S in 1988 and watched the Minneapolis Auditorium get demolished. I did a karate tournament in there once.

Ah, that's the building I was guessing but it's blocked by the tree now. One reason I like taking pictures in the winter is that the sightlines are a lot better without the leaves blocking some of the more distant buildings.

I took these photos at Olson Memorial Highway and West Lyndale Avenue right by I-94. In the 1987 photo, under construction (left to right) are the Hennepin Energy Recovery Center (garbage burner), 150 S 5th St, and Norwest Center (Wells Fargo). In the 2015 photo, at least 12 new towers can be seen, and also the completed garbage burner and Target Field. To the left of the Fifth Street towers, the crane for the 30-story 4Marq apartments can be seen.

Re: Bapster2006's reprocessed 1980's photos
I took these photos from E River Parkway at the U of MN. A few notable structures are the new I-35 bridge, the Vikings Stadium, and both Wells Fargo buildings under construction in the center. Numerous new towers are seen, including the 30-story 4Marq under construction off to the right, and the Carlyle tower is prominent on the right.
In the 1987 photo, Norwest Center and 150 S 5th St are under construction. Notice the lack of buildings around the grain elevators where Gold Medal Park is today, and then compare to the current development.

Same here! As someone who didn't move to MN until 1999 (and the Cities in 2005), but drove through to see family in southern MN for years and years and years, this is astonishing. I feel like I'm catching up on the history of my new home city. The quality of these photos is fantastic.
The problem with being an introvert online is that no one knows you're just hanging out and listening.

Wow, I am very glad to hear that people are enjoying my photos! You are welcome, and there are lots more to come. In fact I have some film I am trying to dig up right now that has some cool shots. It's a matter of going through the right boxes

This photo shows the view north from the Foshay observation deck in 1988. In case you are tempted to think this photo was taken last week, notice the Ritz hotel (now demolished) on the back left and Marquette Plaza (Federal Reserve building at the time) prior to its remodel. You can also see that the last few windows of 150 S 5th St are being added.

I stood on the corner of 8th St and 3rd Ave S in 1987 to get a far-away photo of the construction of the Norwest Center (Wells Fargo). The parking lot is still there.
